Summary

The Bullitt County Fiscal Court met on September 1, 2026. It opened by hiring Anita Stump as the new county treasurer, starting the next morning with training in Hardin County. The court then approved the minutes of the August 18 regular and special meetings and the bills.

Family court judge Monica Meredith spoke about her background ahead of the election. Three zoning ordinances (2622, 2623 and 2624) to rezone parcels from agricultural to R1 residential for single-family homes had their first reading and public hearing. A neighbor spoke against 2624, concerned about a narrow strip of land and a house near his property line. The applicant's grandson answered that the house would sit well within the setback rules. Second readings are set for September 15.

The coroner asked the court how to handle unclaimed bodies under a new state law that took effect in July. The court directed the county attorney to draft a resolution for cremation, with burial of the ashes in a marked location, ideally through a partnership with an existing cemetery. The resolution is expected at the next meeting.

The court also gave first reading to Ordinance 2625, which lets the county bill for hazardous materials cleanup. It passed second reading of Ordinance 2620, the 911 service fee, and reappointed Bill Broton to the sheriff's merit board. It approved speed limits for the Millers Crossing area and a resolution concurring with the state's rural secondary paving recommendations. It also approved pay for poll workers, two EMS promotions and personnel changes, and the new treasurer's salary. Magistrates thanked first responders for their handling of a bus crash on KY 733, and a household hazardous waste and electronics collection was announced for September 12. The meeting adjourned.
