Summary

The Bullitt County Fiscal Court met on May 21, 2024. It handled routine business first, then approved two state grants for household hazardous waste and recycling. Those grants fund two collection events a year. The court also took up several zoning ordinances and the animal control facility.

Grants and solid waste: The solid waste coordinator reported a $441,000 household hazardous waste grant, up from $113,000 last year, plus a recycling grant of about $392,000. The court approved both. Last year's event collected nearly 19,000 pounds of waste from about 250 vehicles. Tires, oil, latex paint and electric-vehicle batteries will not be accepted. Clean-up days are June 1 and June 22.

Zoning: The court approved a fee schedule change and two rezonings for JD Contractors and Landscaping on Brooks Hill Road, from residential to light industrial. It overrode the planning commission on two Stout Brothers Farm conservation rezonings on Deerwood Drive. It cited a lack of infrastructure and the owner's refusal of a construction entrance on Highway 31E. The animal control ordinance update (to match state law) and the FY 2024-25 budget had first readings. The budget is about 4% lower than last year's.

Other action: The court accepted a letter of intent for a Marshall Steakhouse and Resort lease. It approved the contract for the new animal control shelter. It adopted the county road aid resolution and cooperative agreement. It reappointed a fire district board member, approved the county clerk's surplus items, and approved EMS hires, rehires and a promotion. The meeting ended with comments on the disc golf facilities, Smith's Farm superfund site exploration, and a May 27 Memorial Day service.

hazardous waste what is considered household hazardous waste how do you know what you can bring and what you cannot um so the EPA defines household hazardous waste as any leftover so products um that can catch fire reactor explode so anything that you have in your garages anything you have under your sinks that say flammable combustible dangerous caution warning those are the things that we want you to bring we don't want you to try to combine them um yourselves just bring the entire container in and we have a company that's going to unload your vehicle for you so just bring it in whatever container it's in um so don't we people last year tried to combine it together and not not all chemicals can be combined um other questions from the county are why why do we collect household hazardous ways next think we skipped one um so household hazardous waste you never dump these down the drain outside or outside on the ditch lines anything like that I hear people say if you don't
