Bullitt County Fiscal Court
Meeting of March 5, 2024
Bullitt County Fiscal Court 03.05.2024
Summary
The Bullitt County Fiscal Court met on March 5, 2024, in an evening session. It approved the treasurer's transfer report, all bills and the February 20 minutes, all by unanimous vote.
Residents spoke during public comment. People living on Highway 44 West asked to be added to the water extension list, citing unreliable hauled water and fire safety. Several animal advocates raised concerns about transparency and communication at the county animal shelter. Court members said they would look into the complaints and noted that a new shelter is planned, with construction expected to start around June.
Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. Chris Ritchie briefed the court on the reopening of Yano Range, a $56 million upgrade known as the DAGGER range. It is expected to reopen in May and be used about as often as in past decades. The Conservation District also gave its annual plan of work and budget.
The court held the first reading and public hearing of zoning ordinance 2402, which would rezone about 3 acres on Applegate Run from R1 to conservation for a mobile home. The second reading is set for March 19. It approved up to a $10,000 match for a Kentucky Pride Fund recycling grant to hold two household hazardous waste events. It named a new private road, Van Meter Valley Drive, and approved a Motorola digital radio system for the detention center at up to $55,000.
The court accepted road department bids: Premier for gasoline and diesel, Quality Stone for stone, and Mayo Construction for asphalt mix. It authorized EMS to pursue a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant of up to $3 million with a 10% county match, and then approved a further motion on seeking bids for equipment. The judge also previewed a proposed development at the 245 exit and announced hospital events on March 14 and 18. The meeting adjourned at about 7:50 pm.
