Summary

The Bullitt County Fiscal Court met on March 19, 2024. It handled routine business first: the treasurer's transfer report, bills, the treasurer's report and the March 5 minutes were all approved.

Several residents spoke during public comment. They included Mark 12 Ministry on its veterans and mental-health programs, a candidate for the 49th House district, a resident asking about the comprehensive plan, and the Mayor of Hillview thanking the county for help under the interlocal agreement. The Board of Health presented its 24-cent public health tax rate, which the court accepted.

June Dawson donated about 9.3 acres behind Nichols School to the county for use as a recreation area, and the court voted to accept it. The county attorney will handle the legal work, and the court asked for a current survey. The court also approved pursuing a $250,000 Kentucky Pride recycling grant for mobile recycling containers, and a recreational trails grant to pave trails at the disc golf course, with a local match of roughly $25,000.

The jailer presented a detention center budget projecting higher revenue and lower county support, plus raises for command staff. The court approved the budget and the jail's policies and procedures, including a new canine policy. It also gave final approval to the zoning change at Applegate Run from R1 residential to conservation and appointed three members to the sheriff's impound lot board.

In personnel actions, the court approved hiring an HVAC inspector at $35.75 an hour with the six-month retirement waiting period waived, and promoted an EMT to paramedic. EMS now has a record 19 paramedics. The meeting ended with magistrate comments on the new hospital and the push for the cancer center, and then adjourned at 10:40.

  • 7:24

our legislators um I had a chance to to meet with congressman gri and and mathy and and Dr Paul and I was talking to him about our operation restore program uh that is going to help homeless veterans as well as support groups for veterans uh they are very excited about what we are going to do in this community uh as a model we have partnered with USA cares to provide job training skills training and resources for the homeless vets um while we would be able to provide a shelter or housing for them uh where they can lay their head take a shower and again feel like themselves I will say myself as a veteran um and the congressman and Senator agreed it's hard to believe that we we live in a society now that for like a homeless veteran in our community to get help they would have to go to downtown Louisville um they would have to stay at Wayside uh Mission and we really feel that where they live where they ra Rose their right hand where they came to serve from they should be taken care of in the same way

  • 8:37

and so operation restore is a a very significant Vision that we are doing as Mark 12 Ministry where we're going to offer these support groups for veterans to help them find wholeness and come home and then also where we will be helping the homeless veterans of our community who are now unfortunately living like Adam uh in a tent in Mount Washington a marine vet who is not ready to sacrifice where he grew up to go downtown to be in the jungle to try to get resources and so we can come alongside him and help him another thing that I wanted to just update you with as healing together has continued to grow these are support groups for our community we have also as part of this partnered with the libraries and Peace hospital to make mental health safe places so we now have mental health safe places at every one of our libraries uh in this community and what that is is um in January we had a senior present um with suicidal ideations we were able to have a direct call with peace Hospital get her admitted and we were able to hopefully save her life she had enough

  • 9:50

medicine on her possession it would have killed me about 12 times um and she was a little 98-year old lady who had just come to the end for rope but it's because of the the efforts of Peace hospital and of the library that we greatly appreciate this is a service that we can now offer and then lastly as we continue to work with pathway home and the Outreach Thrift uh I know Sean I appreciate you allowing us to participate this winter in the gift um with those in need um and to the families that were there are now back on their feet and even one of the moms is volunteering at the Outreach once a week because she wants to give back and so just some things to consider uh in our community as we continue to build these really great things like the Aquatic Center and and the resort uh for those who would visit and would be able to afford those My Hope and my dream is that we are able to pull alongside everyone in this community so that they all get to also experience the great things that are happening here in bullet County that's all I have to say thank you so much thank you Perry thank you Perry for sharing uh Bill harned good morning
