Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court met January 23, 2025, and opened with proclamations for Ohio Valley-area community services' 50th anniversary on January 30 and Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day on January 31. Christmas at Panther Creek Park checks of about $2,745 each went to five local nonprofits.

Judge Executive Castlin announced the court will match community fundraising for the new Senior Community Center, dollar for dollar up to $500,000. The match cannot come from federal, state or local tax money. The court has already pledged $2 million to the project.

The biggest item was a contract handing operation of the county animal shelter and clinic to It Takes a Village K9 Rescue starting April 1, through December 31, 2027. Under it, current shelter and clinic employees get job offers at their current pay. The contract passed 3-1 on a roll call, with Commissioner Marksberry opposed. Residents spoke on both sides, and afterward commissioners discussed using the Carl Henry account for free spay and neuter.

The court also approved a second reading of a budget amendment, matching funds for a site study grant, a used fire pumper purchase, courthouse renovation change orders and abatement work, IT, emergency management and fire hydrant items, a new GPS and camera fleet tracking system, playground and concession agreements, and the purchase of about 13 acres next to the shotgun range for $135,000. Several personnel actions were approved as well.
