Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court opened its July 11, 2023 meeting with two proclamations. July 15 was named Saint Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church Day for the church's 150th anniversary, and July 13 was named Stanley Volunteer Fire Department Day for its 50th.

County Clerk Leslie McCarty reported that the reapportionment commission found the county's district lines still compact, contiguous and equal in population, and recommended no changes. The court only accepted the recommendation and will vote on it at a future meeting. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet staff also explained the rural secondary road program. The county's roads earned the top rating, and the proposed project is resurfacing and culvert work on KY 140 for about $420,000.

The court approved the June 22 minutes, all claims, an amended solid waste management plan that adds a new residual (C&D) landfill, and the rural secondary program with the county keeping its flex funds for county roads. It rejected the single bid for a used hydraulic bucket truck and will rebid or look at other sources. It awarded a compact excavator bid to Bobcat of Evansville and a bid for two F-150 pickups for Parks to BF Evans Ford. It approved a uniform purchase agreement with Aramark, transferred a surplus mobile command vehicle to Ohio County, promoted David Lopez to truck driver, and hired a seasonal park attendant.

In comments, commissioners discussed the senior citizen center board's vote and the city's funding stance, with concern that the project will be delayed again. The court also congratulated the PVA office for an award for outstanding assessment jurisdiction. The meeting then adjourned.
