Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court opened with two proclamations: May 2023 as High School Heroes Month, honoring 28 graduating seniors who donated blood or volunteered, and May 21-27 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

Dr. Clark of the Daviess County Alliance for Substance Abuse briefed the court on the local drug crisis, led by methamphetamine and fentanyl. She said treatment is cost-effective and that community involvement matters. Commissioners asked about using opioid settlement funds, and she said the alliance is doing strategic planning so the money lasts for decades.

The treasurer reported a total cash balance of about $69.6 million as of April 30. The court then approved a long consent-style agenda: minutes, claims, an annual landfill closure and post-closure fund transfer of $257,837, a salary schedule amendment, and road acceptance resolutions for several subdivisions. It also approved a jail virtual arraignment grant resolution and a roughly $39,790 equipment purchase, which the state will reimburse. A Yellow Creek Park rental agreement for the ROMP festival, June 18-25, was approved too.

The court renewed seven annual service bids and awarded steel plates for the landfill mechanics shop at $11,280. It approved fire department promotions and a road department hire. It appointed a reapportionment committee and made board appointments to the Ohio County Water District and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Commissioners closed by announcing the police memorial service, the June 14 flag disposal event, and the Memorial Day events.
