Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court met October 3, 2024 at OCTC. The judge-executive proclaimed October 2024 Manufacturing Month, and Kimberly-Clark representatives accepted it, noting a 30-year partnership with the county. A county presentation said over 7,100 people work in local manufacturing.

The court worked through a long consent-style agenda with approvals, as far as the transcript shows. These included prior minutes, claims, nine card-access doors for the courthouse, the state auditor's engagement letter for the FY24 audit, the 2025 litter abatement grant, and a revised KIA hydrant grant resolution. The court also accepted a $1 million state appropriation for the Friends of Sinners men's facility.

Several courthouse renovation change orders and many equipment and supply bids were awarded. These covered a snowplow and spreader, walking floor trailers, litter catch systems, truck scales, a compact loader, firearms, ammunition, holsters and roll-off containers. Two employees were promoted, one was hired, and two resignations were accepted.

A first reading was held for Budget Amendment Number Two, which adds the $1 million Friends of Sinners funding. The second reading and adoption are set for October 17. During public comment, residents raised concerns about mercury dental fillings and about a family's experience with the sheriff's office and child protective services. The judge said staff would research the dental issue.

Commissioners reminded residents about the Dogs Playing for Life training and free adult pet adoptions, the October 7 voter registration deadline, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and how to challenge flood-zone designations through a letter of map amendment. The court then moved to a closed session on real property and business discussions, with no action expected.
