Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court opened its July 1, 2021 meeting by honoring Daviess County firefighter/EMT Pavel, who recently became a U.S. citizen after scoring 100% on his citizenship exam. He came to the area through the Owensboro sister-city program with Olomouc, Czech Republic.

The court then approved the minutes and all claims. It passed a resolution to take over a new back access road into the Whimsic Court subdivision, which is needed because of the Highway 54 widening. It also approved a household hazardous waste day grant of about $25,000, with a county match of $7,500. The event is set for October 9 at the operations center and is for Daviess County residents only.

Other approvals included a $3,500 performance contract for the Labor Day weekend fireworks event at Panther Creek Park, a service agreement with Audubon Area Community Services to run the $200,000 CDBG utility assistance program, and a business associate agreement for the Medical Reserve Corps. The court also awarded three bids: shooting targets for the gun club (about $15,690), fireproof filing cabinets for HR ($14,475) and a detention center HVAC replacement ($10,170). It hired a service tech and reappointed Dr. Anthony McBride to the Owensboro Health board.

During comments, officials discussed the state's Outer Loop feasibility study, with the public comment period closing the next day at 5 p.m. through KYTC, and a structural analysis of the fire tower at Panther Creek Park. Employee anniversaries were recognized. Judge-Executive Al Mattingly announced he will not seek a fourth term.
