Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting April 11, 2023
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met April 11, 2023. It opened with proclamations for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Local eighth graders spoke about their campaign to light the bridge blue, and the county 911 director accepted the telecommunicators proclamation.
The court approved a routine slate of items: minutes, claims, and several state agreements. These included a $325,000 application for Griffith Station Road improvements, a nonpublic school bus transport resolution, and the county road aid agreement. It also approved a $182,971 state reimbursement for voting equipment and an agreement for the 2024 state sporting clays championship in August 2024.
The court extended the Owensboro RNG landfill methane gas agreement by one year because the pipeline and power connections planned in 2020 did not work out. It approved a flooring change order for the judicial center, with the cost reimbursed by the Administrative Office of the Courts. It also terminated a truck bid because the dealer could not supply the vehicle. Parks board appointments were made, and Budget Amendment Number One was approved on second reading.
Four ordinances had first readings with no vote. Three update the transient room tax and the convention and visitors bureau to match state law, including removing Owensboro from the bureau's name, adding a budget approval process, and exempting stays of 30 days or more. The fourth lets the school district police use emergency lights.
During public comment, a retiring child support investigator asked the court for more funding for the County Attorney's child support division. The sheriff announced a field office opening. Residents raised traffic safety concerns on Thruston-Dermont Road and at US 60 and Halls Boulevard. Commissioners promoted the community cleanup, the tree seedling giveaway, and distracted driving awareness.
