Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court met on August 4, 2022 and worked through a routine agenda, approving every item on it. It approved the minutes and claims, the health department's 2023 tax rate of 4 cents per $100, and an update to the solid waste management plan for 2022-2027.

The court approved several contracts and agreements. These were rural secondary flex funds for Daniels Lane and Lake Town Road, a radio system agreement with Henderson County for the P25 Phase II system, and a city of Owensboro agreement on a $22,474 JAG grant. It also approved a design contract for the Curley Judicial Annex lobby renovation and awarded the landfill leachate drainage stone bid to Yeager Materials at $24.80 per ton, about $744,000 for roughly 30,000 tons.

The court hired a new EMA planner, a staff accountant and a service technician. It also held a first reading of the 2022 tax rate ordinance. The proposed compensating rates would lower the real property rate from 13.4 to 13.0 cents and the tangible personal property rate to 13.84 cents. Because property values rose, the court said this would bring in about the same revenue and would not raise taxes. A vote is expected at the next meeting on Tuesday, August 16 at noon.

The judge also announced an agreement with the United Daughters of the Confederacy over the Confederate monument. The county will transfer the monument's base to the UDC, which will relocate it to the Panther Creek battlefield by August 31 and drop its appeal. The county keeps the statue itself. The meeting then adjourned.
