Summary

At its final meeting of 2023, the Daviess County Fiscal Court worked through a long consent-style agenda, and every item appears to have passed on voice votes. The treasurer reported normal, expected finances through November 30.

The court approved the minutes and claims, along with lease agreements for court employee parking at First Baptist Church and the parking garage. It also approved a bicycle share lease and 2024 playground leases with the school board, the Diocese of Owensboro, Stanley and Whitesville, plus a Babe Ruth League concessions contract.

On equipment and bids, the court approved a replacement John Deere tractor and mower, which insurance will offset after an October incident. It also approved a used bucket truck from Owensboro Municipal Utilities for $46,000 and a new Stanley fire engine, to which the court will contribute $325,000. It rejected the landfill compactor bids, awarded annual right-of-way mowing to BJ Ward, and renewed the mosquito control, elevator maintenance and property maintenance contracts.

The judge made about 13 appointments and reappointments to community boards, including the stormwater, planning commission, Oasis, extension district, water district and chamber boards. Commissioner Castlen abstained on his own chamber reappointment. Residents who want to serve on a board can sign up through the court's website portal.

No public comments were offered. Members closed by thanking staff, congratulating retiring Commonwealth's Attorney Bruce Kegel, and wishing everyone a safe holiday season.
