Meeting of April 11, 2022
Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting April 11, 2022
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met April 11, 2022, in a courtroom open to the public for the first time in two years. The court proclaimed April 2022 Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month and honored the Apollo High School Eaglets dance team for two national championships and a state title.
Commissioners approved the minutes, claims, and the salaries of certain elected officials. Those salaries are set once every four years, and the commissioners' salary was stated as roughly $60,000 effective January 1, 2023. They also approved the annual resolution on nonpublic school student transportation, which allows the county to be reimbursed by the state for most of those costs. Documents tied to the $1 million CDBG-CV grant for Oasis to relocate to an existing building were approved as well.
The court renamed a section of Old Highway 144 as Nanny Bell Loop after a petition led by Judge Gene Lanham, who hoped to reduce problems with GPS, deliveries and emergency response. The road index was adopted on second reading.
Other approvals included a $15,200 per year landfill air compliance contract, a state agreement to reimburse $142,500 toward voting machines, renewal of the rock salt bid, and bids for shotgun ammunition and a landfill roller rental. The court hired an animal control officer and a road department laborer. A first reading of budget amendment five adds $1 million in both revenue and expense for the Oasis grant, with no net effect. Commissioners reminded residents to mark their house numbers clearly for emergency crews, and the court will close at noon Good Friday.

whereas child abuse can have long-term psychological emotional and physical effects that have lasting consequences for victims of abuse and whereas every child is entitled to be loved cared for nurtured feels secure and free of verbal sexual emotional and physical abuse and neglect and whereas it is the responsibility of every adult who comes in contact with a child to protect that child's right to safe and nurturing childhood whereas prevention remains the best defense and communities must make every effort to proclaim programs and activities that create and encourage strong thriving children and families and now therefore in davis county al mattingly davis county judge executive does hereby proclaim april 2022 as child abuse and neglect prevention month thank you commissioners as i said we've already presented the proclamation and we just wanted to get that out to all those who would be watching this evening jenny next item b recognition apollo
