Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting January 5, 2023
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court held its first regular meeting of 2023 on January 5, opening with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a performance by the Men's Mass Community Choir.
The court approved the December 15, 2022 minutes and all claims. It approved the 2023 budgets for the County Clerk (about $2.37 million, no subsidy needed from the county) and the Sheriff (about $6.52 million, requiring a county subsidy of about $3.57 million). The sheriff may amend his budget if the state cost-of-living adjustment exceeds 5 percent.
The court also approved routine items: emergency management time reporting, which keeps the county eligible for up to 50 percent salary reimbursement; playground and ball field lease agreements with Daviess County Public Schools covering about 120 recreational teams; reappointment of existing county employees; and surety bonds for elected officials and offices. It approved a solid waste laborer hire to replace a retiring employee.
The court made board appointments. Steve Rising and Michael Boyd were named to the airport board, Chris Castlin to the chamber board, and Commissioner Janie Marksberry to the Owensboro-Daviess County steering committee, with Marksberry abstaining. The judge executive read out commissioner liaison assignments and said he is re-establishing the county employee council. Commissioners thanked supporters and introduced family, and the meeting adjourned.
