Daviess County Fiscal Court
Meeting of August 6, 2024
Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting August 6, 2024
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court opened its August 6, 2024 meeting by proclaiming August 15, 2024 as Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph Day, honoring the sisters' 150 years of education and service in the county. Sister Monica Seiton accepted the proclamation, and several magistrates shared personal memories of being taught by the sisters.
The court approved the July 25 minutes and all claims. It also passed resolutions on rural secondary road funds, a state grant application to offset the match for lighting at Stanley Park, and the paperwork needed to receive $12 million for the Daviess County Water District waterline project and $250,000 for the Whitesville sewer compliance project. Both of those amounts came through Senate Bill 91.
The court awarded a $217,500 asbestos abatement bid that must be completed before demolition and construction begin on the courthouse renovation. It also approved purchases for the fire, parks, and road departments, including a pickup truck, mowers, a propane forklift, ice rescue equipment, and bunker gear. Bids for a parks utility truck and a dump truck were rejected as too expensive and will be rebid.
The court appointed four people to the 911 Advisory Committee and hired Jay Fogle as a solid waste heavy equipment operator. In closing comments, magistrates thanked the East Daviess County Water Company crews for their work during a boil water advisory and thanked outdoor workers laboring in the heat. They also discussed roadside weeds as a first-impression issue for visitors. Starting next meeting, the court will meet in the Blandford Lecture Hall (room H126) at Owensboro Community and Technical College, 4800 New Hartford Road, until further notice, because of the courthouse remodel.
