Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting September 19, 2023
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met on September 19, 2023. It opened with a proclamation declaring September 17-23 Constitution Week, accepted by a representative of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The outgoing executive director of the Owensboro Family YMCA then gave an update on the YMCA's plans after talks with the senior center ended, including a new roof on the building next door and a possible child care facility.
The treasurer reported a total cash balance of about $70.2 million across all funds as of August 31. The court then passed every action item on its agenda. The items included approving minutes and claims and a resolution supporting the annual $200,000 Community Development Block Grant application for Owensboro Regional Recovery.
The court also approved an amendment extending the International Paper waste contract through September 30, 2025, with a rate increase. This material is paper sludge that goes into the county's residual landfill. Other approvals were a joint reappointment to the drug and alcohol advisory board, a new assistant county engineer, and a fleet management promotion.
Commissioners reminded residents of the free household hazardous waste event on Saturday, October 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at the county operations center on Highway 81. They praised the air show, Owensboro Regional Recovery alumni day, and the Thruston volunteer fire department's 50th anniversary. They also noted that the University of Louisville School of Dentistry will take over operation of the community dental clinic in January 2024.
