Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court met March 20, 2025, and worked through a long consent-style agenda with every item receiving unanimous voice approval as far as the captions show. The treasurer reported normal finances for February, and the court approved minutes and claims.

The court approved a second reading of a zoning text amendment, the annual nonpublic school bus transportation resolution (budgeted about $300,000, reimbursed by the state), two law enforcement grant applications (tasers and body armor for the detention center), and paperwork ending the Scott Paper (Kimberly-Clark) industrial revenue bonds. A state grant agreement for Stanley Park lighting was approved, and two surplus Humvees will be sold at electronic auction.

The court dissolved the Animal Control Commission ahead of April 1, when It Takes a Village Canine Rescue takes over the shelter and clinic and the Sheriff's Office takes over animal control law enforcement. A first reading of a revised animal control ordinance was presented; no vote was needed.

The court awarded bids for a walking floor trailer and two road tractors to Vomac Truck Sales and Service, and for a restroom and two picnic shelters at Yellow Creek and Panther Creek parks to Masar and West Construction. It also approved agreements for a pollinator plot with the Audubon society, July 4 fireworks and entertainment contracts (the show moves to the top of the dam), a landfill gas consent, a promotion, and seasonal park hires.

During public comment, a Deer Valley resident asked about a hazardous tree on platted but never-accepted right of way. Officials said the county does not own it and cannot spend public money on it, and that a title search or circuit court action by adjoining landowners is the likely path. Commissioners also warned residents about roofing scammers after the hailstorm, noted the county does not meet disaster aid thresholds, said the landfill will take roofing shingles, and announced a shredding event.
