Daviess County Fiscal Court
Meeting of May 19, 2022
Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting May 19, 2022
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met on May 19, 2022. The court heard the April treasurer's report, which showed a cash balance of about $62.7 million. The treasurer explained that the large balance is mostly restricted or seasonal: landfill closure escrow funds of roughly $8 million, tax revenue collected in November and December, and federal relief money, of which $10 million is slated for rural broadband.
The court paused its agenda to welcome a delegation from sister city Olomouc, Czech Republic. The mayor spoke about 30 years of friendship and thanked the county for its support of Ukraine.
The court approved the minutes, claims, and the salary schedule for July 1. It also approved resolutions to apply for a recreational trails grant for a Greenbelt extension and a Homeland Security grant for jail computer backup drives. It approved the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame's river of music party park agreement, a quality-control contract for new landfill cell construction, and a 10 percent price increase for right-of-way mowing.
The court also approved several hires and a promotion: a road department mechanic, a solid waste equipment operator, a courier, park attendants, and a fire department intern. Commissioners closed by noting the primary election, a police memorial, and that the second vote on the budget is at the first June meeting.

- 2:31
we're finished with the landfill so that we can close it off that's approximately eight million dollars we and we don't cycle that annually it just sits there until we need it the general fund is up because of the uh the way the tax revenues come in we collect primarily majority of the tax revenue in november and december so we we would be at a high point as far as cash yeah this would be the point where we would have most of the cash that we're going to collect now we're going to spend it down throughout the year waiting on the next tax season we also have some harper funds in there that i think we're waiting seven and a half seven point six here and we should get a the next tranche uh any day right okay and of that 10 million is going to go back out in the contract to provide broadband throughout rural davis county of which i can confidently say that that is going to happen and we're looking 18 to 24 months it should be every everyone that signs up for the service should be turned on i'm looking at jordan because he attended a meeting yesterday isn't that your understanding
- 3:45

- 6:10
will be required to increase that because it seems that even at that taking it from seven and a quarter seven thirty five to twelve dollars we continually have issues we don't have as many issues as the city has but we still have issues any other question or comment [Music] there being none all in favor signify with saying aye aye aye opposed motion carries jenny are they out in the hallway trying to come in wanting to come in wanting time to come in all right [Music] commissioners if you don't mind we're going to interrupt our meeting and move back to the first item where we welcome our sister city representatives from the city of ole miss and from the czech
