Summary

The Daviess County Fiscal Court met October 17, 2024 at the OCTC campus Blandford Lecture Hall. The court heard the September treasurer's report and then approved every action item on the agenda, apparently without opposition.

On finances, the court approved the minutes and claims, amended the County Clerk's budget to add $24,000 for overtime caused by the switch to the statewide vehicle information system (CAVIS), and adopted Budget Amendment Number Two to reflect a $1 million state appropriation for the Friends of Centers men's facility. A memorandum of agreement with Friends of Centers was also approved. A payroll revolving fund was set up to support the new payroll platform.

On infrastructure and safety, the court accepted emergency county road aid of $150,000 for the closed Old Hartford Road bridge, with plans to replace the bridge deck and construct in summer 2025. It approved a $15,300 aerial mapping modification, a new community notification siren, upgrades to four sirens to the digital 800 MHz system, third-floor secure doors at the judicial center (reimbursed by the AOC), concrete floor resurfacing at the Grimes Avenue transfer station, and installation of 88 fire hydrants. Design contracts were approved for a new restroom and small shelters at county parks.

The court also approved a promotion, two resignations or retirements, and a board reappointment. In comments, officials promoted the Halloween Hollow event on Oct. 25 and Park Cleanup Day on Oct. 26, extended Yellow Creek Park hours in November, announced the Christmas lights agencies, raised concern about rising homelessness, and urged residents to vote. This was the last meeting before the election.
