Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting January 26, 2021
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met January 26, 2021, with socially distanced commissioners in the courtroom and the public invited to submit comments by Facebook. The court proclaimed February 7-13 as Food Checkout Week and heard that the county's cash balance at December 31 was about $43.5 million, with the fiscal year halfway through and funds performing as expected.
Commissioners approved the prior minutes, all claims, and routine fund transfers, including $1 million to the bond fund for convention center debt. They also approved the playground leases and Babe Ruth concessions contract, a roughly $15,156 order of trap and skeet targets for the gun club, final release of street and maintenance bonds for Whispering Meadows Unit 8, and the reappointment of Wally Taylor to the Property Maintenance Board.
The court held a first reading of an ordinance cutting the county's insurance premium license fee for residents outside Owensboro and Whitesville. The 4 percent piece added to pay for the convention center would be reduced for 2022, taking the rate from 8.9 percent to 7.2 percent, because the county has been over-collecting. The treasurer expects to bring back an ordinance next year removing that piece entirely, leaving the original 4.9 percent. The second reading is set for February 18.
The judge executive also gave a COVID vaccine update and proposed monthly jail and sheriff briefings to the court. Commissioners noted the new Real ID office is open locally, and the meeting adjourned.
