Meeting of September 16, 2021
Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting September 16, 2021
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court met on September 16, 2021, and worked through a busy agenda. It began with proclamations for National Senior Center Month, 10-4 Awareness Day (child abuse bruising rule), Saving Our Rivers Day and Kentucky Women in Agriculture Day. The treasurer reported a cash balance of about $55.7 million at the end of August.
The court approved the minutes and claims, the detention center's updated policy manuals, and an agreement with Owensboro Community and Technical College, AMR and the city to train paramedics starting in January 2022. It also approved a $24,060 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for mobile data terminals in patrol cars, and a $46,764 change order for engineering work on a county-built radio tower at the landfill.
The court declared surplus items for an October 19 auction and awarded several bids, including pickleball courts at Stanley Park, a jail HVAC unit, snowplow equipment and new emergency sirens. A second reading ordinance passed to rebate part of occupational license fees to Griffin Environmental as part of a state incentive program.
An engineering report found the fire tower unsafe for public use, with repairs estimated around $120,000 and likely about $150,000 overall. The court voted to declare it surplus and have the engineer take it down.
The judge also announced a free paper shredding event with extra capacity, rescheduled meeting dates, and eviction relief information. The court then went into closed session to discuss real property and a business proposal, with no action planned.
