Daviess County Fiscal Court Meeting January 19, 2023
Summary
The Daviess County Fiscal Court opened its January 19, 2023 meeting with the presentation of Christmas at Panther Creek checks. Five local nonprofits each received $5,506.70 (the captions garble the figure) from about $27,533 raised: Wendell Foster Center, Joe Ford Nature Center, Owensboro Regional Recovery, Elite Star Training and Southern Oaks Elementary PTO.
The court passed a resolution declaring county support for the Second Amendment. A large group spoke in favor, led by Jason Potts, and one resident, David Fleischman, spoke in opposition. It carried on a voice vote. The court also approved a resolution on library board appointments under the new state law (Senate Bill 136).
Other approvals included the treasurer's final settlement, a salary schedule update, and emergency management agreements. The court also approved the annual search and rescue affiliation agreement, a design agreement with WBW Engineering for replacing the HVAC at the judicial center (design costs to be reimbursed by the AOC), and playground and Babe Ruth concession agreements. It approved $178,965 in election equipment for the County Clerk, which the judge executive will seek to cover with HAVA and other funds.
Three employees were promoted in public works, and the court made several appointments, including Sheriff Brad Youngman to the ambulance contracting authority. Commissioners closed with comments on rural internet service availability and a recent speaker event.
