Grayson County Fiscal Court Meeting 05.18.2021 · Watch on YouTube ↗
Summary
Grayson County Fiscal Court – May 18, 2021
The court handled a lengthy routine agenda, approving minutes, bill payments, budget transfers, and monthly settlements for both the general county and the jailer's office. The court also gave first reading approval to the proposed 2021-2022 county budget, totaling roughly $32.8 million across all funds including the general fund, road fund, jail fund, and ARPA money.
Two ordinances addressing aggressive dogs — one covering injury to livestock and domestic animals, another covering danger to persons on public and private property — received their second reading and were approved with little discussion, having generated mostly positive feedback since the first reading.
A notable item was approval of a memorandum of understanding with the Administrative Office of the Courts, which will reimburse the county over $248,000 for replacement of aging, undersized commercial air conditioning "chiller" units at the judicial center that have caused ongoing maintenance problems since the building was constructed.
In new business, the court voted to convert the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce director position from a city employee to a county employee, a cost-neutral change since the chamber will continue to reimburse the county for the position's expenses; the fiscal court will now also need to approve the chamber's budget.
In old business, magistrates discussed ongoing problems with a cable installation subcontractor (working for Windstream) whose work has damaged roadways and who has been unresponsive to meeting requests; the court directed staff to pursue contact and consider a cease-and-desist letter if needed. The meeting closed with routine adjournment.
