Summary

Grayson County Fiscal Court – April 5, 2022

The court handled a full slate of routine business at the start of the meeting, approving minutes, bills, budget transfers for both the county and jail, and moving jail fund CD proceeds into the jail fund at the recommendation of Treasurer Jason. Several water and conservation-related items were also approved, including the Edmonson County water district service area map, the Caney Creek and Big Greedy watershed conservancy budgets, and the Grayson County Extension Office's 2022-2023 budget.

The main item of business was the opening of sealed bids for demolition of two vacant buildings on Market Street. Five bids were opened and read aloud, ranging from $33,000 (Basham Construction and Rental Company) up to nearly $124,900 (Skyline Construction). After discussion about contract enforcement, penalties for missing the seven-working-day completion deadline, and what would happen if a low bidder backed out, the court voted to accept the lowest bid from Basham Construction and Rental Company for $33,000.

Under new/old business, Magistrate Jeremy updated the court on his research into a possible golf cart ordinance for lake-area roads, noting he has been consulting the Attorney General's office and other counties (with Davis County cited as a good model) and expects to bring a draft for a first reading at the next meeting. Discussion touched on educating residents in affected areas about the rules via flyers or signage before enforcement begins.

A candidate for county coroner, Steve Stapleton, introduced himself to the court. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
