Summary

Grayson County Fiscal Court – January 15, 2026

The fiscal court moved through a lengthy consent-style agenda, approving routine items including minutes, bills, budget transfers, treasurer's and sheriff's settlements, and the sheriff's fourth-quarter budget update. The court also accepted the sheriff's 2025 excess fees (~$239,357.46) and approved using those funds for 2026 payroll and other expenses.

The court approved putting Baron Clemens on as a new electrical inspector after he completed required state training, and voted to place a petition for alcohol sales at the golf course (South A precinct) on the May 19, 2026 ballot, having confirmed the petition met signature and wording requirements. Appointments to the tourism board were also approved.

In new business, the court approved appointing Emily Gibson as the county's new addiction reduction officer, funded through opioid abatement dollars. A motion also passed to allow compensation for volunteers who assist with events such as search and rescue and flood response, on an as-needed basis. Three additional bills received that week were approved for payment.

No old business was raised. The meeting closed with an extended public comment period in which multiple speakers, including a former 911 dispatcher, sharply criticized Sheriff Chaffins and Judge Executive Henderson for entering a 287(g) agreement with ICE, raising concerns about training standards, human rights, and accountability, and calling for the agreement to be ended.
