Grayson County Fiscal Court Meeting 10.19.2023 · Watch on YouTube ↗

Summary

Grayson County Fiscal Court – October 19, 2023

The court opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before moving quickly through a long list of routine financial approvals: minutes, bill payments, treasurer and jailer settlements, sheriff's settlements, and budget transfers were all approved with little discussion.

A notable item was the approval of a bid for a new EMR (records) system for the sheriff's office, awarded to Correct Tech out of Paducah, Kentucky. The court chose the more expensive on-site implementation option (about $67,800) over the cheaper remote option so the vendor could train staff in person, plus an ongoing monthly support fee.

The court also approved paying off a roughly $90,000 lease on property at Logsdon Valley Park, originally purchased around 2004, using proceeds from the sale of the old sheriff's office building. This payoff will occur with the November 16th bills rather than immediately.

Road department leadership requested and received approval to hire two new employees (Charles Bradley and Riley Higdon) to replace two workers who had recently left for other jobs.

Under old business, magistrates discussed ongoing regional water infrastructure cooperation: Edmonson County Water District has decided to borrow money to lay a new water line connecting to the Grayson County system, which should help resolve water shortages in the Wax and Ponia areas. There was also an update on a committee studying opioid settlement fund usage, with plans to bring a recommendation to the court early next year. The meeting adjourned with the next session set for November 16th.
