Summary

Ohio County Fiscal Court – September 23, 2025

The fiscal court handled routine business first, approving the minutes from the September 9th meeting, paying the bills/claims, acknowledging the clerk's transfer of 2025 tax bills, and acknowledging the treasurer's August report.

The road committee brought several items forward. The court agreed to extend Hawker Street/Lane by 350 feet into the county road system. The court also declared several pieces of aging road equipment (John Deere tractors, a pothole patcher, and a mower) as surplus to be sold on GovDeals.com, with proceeds going toward new equipment purchases. A motion passed to purchase a new mowing tractor before a price increase deadline, funded by surplus sale proceeds and an advance against incoming FEMA reimbursement money, with the treasurer authorized to borrow funds in the interim.

Magistrate Michael Morrow brought a motion to bring Tucker Holler Road Extension into the county road system as a low-maintenance road, driven by a need to get a utility easement for extending a water line to serve residents; this passed despite not fully meeting standard road criteria, since the county would not be responsible for maintaining it.

The wage scale committee met but had no recommendation yet. Magistrates gave brief updates on local road slide repairs, blacktopping schedules, and a road hump needing repair. A judge/committee member gave an update on Spectrum's aggressive broadband expansion efforts in the county, encouraging residents in underserved areas to contact Spectrum about service.

No other major business was conducted; the meeting was adjourned with the next meeting scheduled for October 14th.

Deere which we found out is not compatible with Road. So, it'll bring quite a bit. I mean, it'll bring a more than anything else I'm named here that to go toward the purchase of new equipment. It has a 5year warranty dealand we have like I said four pieces we're looking at but this one and also would authorize the treasur to borrow the money until the FEMA money comes in then you pay it back.

  • 8:37

That' be part of the motion. What's other pieces of equipment?Um a a mowing tractor and a bush hog for it and a pothole patcher.Okay, we need a pothole patcher. Yeah, we're going to get it next meeting if everything lines out.The the reason they're wanting to look at purchasing the the MO trim because if they don't purchase it by a certain date, it it goes up $12,000.Yeah.That that's that's the hurry on that. The other one, there's really no hurry on it. So,pole patcher. We're getting a newer one orbrand new. Okay.Yeah.
