Summary
Ohio County Fiscal Court – March 9, 2021
The court handled routine business (minutes, bills/claims, financial reports) and closed an unused road fund savings account, moving its remaining ~$1,600 into the regular road fund checking account. A resolution was approved to apply for CDBG COVID-19 utility relief funds, and separate motions authorized the road department to apply for Land & Water Conservation and Recreational Trails grants, with matching contributions to come from county equipment and manpower rather than cash.
Coroner Kevin Doolin gave an update on his office, thanking the court for a new office, morgue space, a cooler, and a new stretcher, and requested help with a bathroom at the morgue, a physical address, and possibly a part-time/PRN deputy position. The court also approved the low ambulance remount bid from Select Tech ($84,388.40) and discussed working with the vendor on covering costs before the fiscal year ends.
The court approved a $250 donation to Ohio County High School's Project Graduation and continued funding (from reserves) for Foster Grandparents, RSVP, and Senior Companion programs at prior-year levels. Jim Duke was appointed to the Airport Board and Helen McCown to the Library Board. A closed session was held under KRS provisions.
Committee reports covered ongoing review of employee health insurance options (comparing CVCICO and state plans) and a jail committee meeting scheduled for March 25th. A COVID-19 update noted improving but still elevated case numbers and a higher death rate compared to neighboring counties, along with a data discrepancy of 162 unresolved positive cases. Magistrates also gave updates on tornado siren repairs and requested a rolling list for tracking pavement/tile settling repair spots.
The court passed a resolution authorizing the judge to apply for a Community Corrections grant with a March 15th deadline. The meeting closed with tributes to a retiring long-time employee, Renetta, and a reminder of a 4:00 pm budget workshop scheduled before the next fiscal court meeting.
