7-11-23 Ohio County Fiscal Court Meeting · Watch on YouTube ↗
Summary
The Ohio County Fiscal Court met on July 11, 2023, and quickly worked through a light agenda of routine business before spending significant time celebrating community achievements. The court approved minutes, bills, claims, transfers, and financial reports without much debate, and gave first reading approval to the 2024 budget amendment (BA 2024-1) as well as a resolution to help fund an excavator purchase.
Tourism director Jody shared exciting news that Ohio County has been chosen by Brand USA to be featured in an international documentary on bluegrass music, with filming set to take place at the Rosine Barn and other local landmarks. She also recapped a successful celebration of Bill Monroe's 100th mandolin anniversary at the barn.
Magistrates discussed ongoing water line extension projects, including a request for a Longview Church Lane extension (motioned and seconded, to be added to a waiting list pending exact cost estimates) and updates on other water line projects. Judge Executive Johnson also discussed fire department equipment needs, noting the county is purchasing a gas/propane meter for fire stations and encouraging future requests to go through the county firefighters association for coordinated planning.
The meeting closed on a celebratory note as the county's 9U all-star baseball team, fresh off a state championship win, was recognized. The team is heading to a regional tournament with a chance to qualify for the World Series in Okaloosa, Florida. Judge Johnson pledged to donate his discretionary funds to help the team with travel costs, and encouraged donations be routed through the Ohio County Youth Baseball League for proper tax handling.
